Alright, so while we’re doing this Top We Were On A Quarantine Shirt Classic Shirt quarantine thing I have been posting some rankings of wedding stuff for the Bates and Duggars, accompanied by a judgmental commentary. Today’s list is about Bates bridal gowns! As usual, I’m including photos so it makes it easy for you to snark along with me. At first I couldn’t figure out what I disliked about the neckline and sleeves. It looked pretty nice with the alterations until I realized what exactly they did to church it up. The modesty panel really takes away some of the visual interest of the dress and just makes it very… white. Kinda plain

Carlin (May 2019): Carlin wore a Top We Were On A Quarantine Shirt Classic Shirt tulle-skirted ballgown with lacy sleeves and a floral detail at her waist. This dress is pretty, modern, and overall flattering. It stands out without being super princessy. My only issue with this dress, really, is the flower belt thing. I think the big old flower is a little too large and kind of gives me country vibes that don’t go with the rest of the dress. She should have gone with a beaded sash/belt, sans flower.

Tori (December 2017): Tori went with a Top We Were On A Quarantine Shirt Classic Shirt more figure-hugging sheath dress that was also unique for a fundie wedding in that it was not pure white. Tori gets points from me for breaking from the endless parade of Bates A-line wedding gowns and for picking the champagne color. This dress has a lot going on and is a tad busy for me. I also think this silhouette is tough to pull off and other styles are naturally more flattering. That being said, I like that this dress is different because so many fundie dresses follow the same damn formula, so that boosts Tori for me. I also definitely prefer the lacy long sleeves to other “I have to cover shoulders because of modesty” options; it looks more like a stylistic choice than dogma and is appropriate for a winter wedding.
